MDI Hospital to add Southwest Harbor facility

A new $3.2 million health care facility in Southwest Harbor will offer improved care for patients suffering from chronic or multiple diseases.

Mount Desert Island Hospital's planned 11,000-square-foot Community Health Center will become the new home to the hospital's existing health and physical-occupational therapy centers in Southwest Harbor, the Bangor Daily News reported. The facility will offer alternative medicine capability, telemedicine facilities, and a daytime care facility for adults suffering memory loss. The new space also will include expanded lab space, as well as primary care and behavioral health services.

Hospital officials plan to open the new facility, which will add a handful of health care jobs, by the fall of 2008, the paper reported.
