Modular home builder closes, lays off 60

Burlington Homes of Maine, a modular home builder in Oxford, shut its doors Wednesday, leaving at least 60 people out of work.

Facing declining sales and rising operating costs, the company began laying off employees in November, former Burlington Homes executive Don Chadwell told Mainebiz this morning. "The overhead just made it impossible to keep it alive," Chadwell said.

The business laid off at least 60 people total, Chadwell said.
