New airline taking flight from Portland to four locations

Interior of Portland International Jetport File / Portland International Jetport Breeze Airways low-fare airline is introducing service at Portland International Jetport this spring.

Breeze Airways is introducing service from Portland on May 17, with nonstop flights and year-round service to Charleston, S.C. and Tampa, Fla.

Breeze is also offering seasonal summer service to Pittsburgh and Norfolk, Va.

Passengers may choose from three fare bundles called Nice, Nicer and Nicest; the latter is only available on Airbus A220 aircraft. Guests also have an a la carte option where they can choose a ‘Nice’ or ‘Nicer’ bundle and add a first-class seat.

“At Breeze, we always look for routes that people are traveling today but can’t get there nonstop,” said Tom Doxey, Breeze Airways’ president. “Portland-area residents can now get to Charleston, Tampa, Norfolk and Pittsburgh twice as fast, for about half the price! We’re really looking forward to our debut service from Maine this summer.”

The introductory fare is $39 one-way from Portland to Charleston on Mondays and Fridays (Nicer from $79) starting May 19.

The same fares are in place on Mondays and Fridays from June 2 to Sept. 5 to Norfolk and Pittsburgh.

Flights to Tampa will begin May 17, with Nice bundles from $59 one way, Nicer from $99 and Nicest from $249 on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

"We are thrilled to welcome Breeze Airways to Portland, Maine," Portland International Airport Director Paul Bradbury said. "As Maine's home airport we are focused on providing Mainers the non-stop destinations they desire. Today's announcement by Breeze adds four new non-stop destinations, and their 'Seriously Nice' level of service pairs well with our industry-recognized passenger experience and the overall essence of Maine.”

The airline now offers 143 nonstop routes between 35 cities in 21 states nationally. Breeze has ordered 80 brand-new Airbus A220-300 aircraft, with options for 40 more.

Seat pitch for a standard economy seat is 30 inches on the A220s and 31 inches on the E-195s, while seat pitch for extra legroom is 32 inches on the A220s and between 34 and 39 inches on the E-195s, depending on the row selected.

First Class seats feature 39 inches of seat pitch, 20.5 inches of seat width, and special features including a footrest for added comfort, and in-seat AC power and USB/C ports.

The promotional fare is only available for new reservations. The promotion must be purchased by Feb. 20, for travel by Sept. 5, 2023.  The price displayed includes taxes and government fees. Fare prices, rules, routes and schedules are subject to change without notice.  Other restrictions may apply.

Founded by aviation entrepreneur David Neeleman, Utah-based Breeze Airways began service in May 2021. One year later, it was ranked the No. 2 U.S. best domestic airline of 2021 by Travel + Leisure World's Best Awards. For more about the new service from Portland, click here.
