New hires

Zype, a video API and infrastructure platform in New York, hired Lauren Chadwick as senior vice president of marketing. Chadwick was previously the head of marketing at CashStar.

Fontaine Family, an Auburn real estate firm, hired Calvin Willette and Molly Ray as sales agents in Auburn.

Legacy Properties Sotheby’s International Realty, a luxury real estate company, hired Ryan FitzGerald as a real estate professional in Portland.

Eastern Maine Development Corp. in Bangor hired Laurie Osher as community resilience specialist. Osher, a Maine State Representative representing Orono, is the owner of Osher Environment System.

Aquarius Property Management in Portland hired Adam Mains as maintenance director.

Central Maine Community College in Auburn hired Jennifer Jefferson as dean of academic affairs. Jefferson was most recently interim vice president of academic affairs for Manchester Community College.

The University of New England in Biddeford hired Gwendolyn Mahon as university provost and senior vice president for academic affairs. She will start Oct. 24. Most recently Mahon was dean of the Rutgers School of Health Professions.

Partners Bank in Sanford hired Jared LeClaire as a mortgage loan officer in Portsmouth, N.H. LeClaire was previously mortgage loan officer at Gold Star Lending.

Northern Light Mercy Hospital in Portland hired Milaim Mustafa as an oncologist at Northern Light Mercy Cancer Care. Previously, Mustafa practiced at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

Channel 8 WMTW in Portland hired Jon Chrisos as new evening anchor and Colleen Hurley as a meteorologist.

FocusMaine, a private sector-led initiative based in Portland to catalyze job growth and enhance the state’s economy, hired Dana O’Brien as president. O’Brien was chief sustainability officer at Biotechnology Innovation Organization.

MMG Insurance Co. in Presque Isle hired Kendra Coates as senior vice president, deputy CFO. Coates most recently was deputy commissioner/COO for the Department of Public Safety.

Bar Harbor Bank & Trust hired Sarah McMahon as branch relationship manager in Brunswick. McMahon was previously multi-unit team leader for H&R Block.

Promotions

Maine Community Bank in Biddeford promoted Jahnna Steindl to oversee the Main Street Biddeford branch of Biddeford Savings. Steindl was previously vice president, branch manager of Biddeford Savings in Westbrook.

EqualityMaine, a lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender political advocacy organization in Portland, promoted Gia Drew to executive director. Drew was previously program director.

Bull Moose, a Portland-based music and entertainment chain, promoted Shawn Nichols to president and CEO. Nichols was previously vice president of operations.

The MEMIC Group, a workers’ compensation insurance company in Portland, promoted Lily Hanstein to vice president of strategy. Hanstein was previously director of strategy.

Appointments

Downtown Ellsworth, a community revitalization group, announced that Maggie Iannuzzi and Timothy Tunney joined the Heart of Ellsworth board of directors. Iannuzzi is co-owner of Precipice Coffee while Tunney is a commercial loan officer with Franklin Savings Bank.

The Maine Society of Certified, Public Accountants announced its board of governor’s officers and board members. David Stone, Berry Dunn, will serve as president; Heather Perrault, state of Maine, vice-president; Spencer Hathaway, Baker Newman Noyes, and Mike Santo, Wipfli, treasurers; and Micah Davis-Johnson, Aries Wealth Management, secretary. Board members include: David Barrett, University of Maine; Barbara Belik and Elizabeth Flynn, St. Joseph’s College of Maine; Jake Black, Berry Dunn; Ryan Curry, IDEXX; Tami Gower, University of New England; Peter Hall, PJ Hall CPA; Kirin Schrum, S.A. Kennebec Savings Bank in Augusta added Alison Lorenz to its board of directors. Lorenz managing director and tax director at One River CPAs.

Girl Scouts of Maine in South Portland announced the appointment of five new members to its board of directors. Additions include LeAnne Grillo, founder and partner, Spaces for Change; Sarah Day, director, employee and corporate communications, Unum; Elaine Healey, regional initiatives manager, Bank of America; Elizabeth Smith, 9th grade student, Bangor High School; and Charlena LaVallee, 11th grade student, Gray-New Gloucester High School.

Avesta Housing, a nonprofit affordable housing provider based in Portland, added Alice Kabore to its board of directors and Diane Donaldson to the 75 State Street board of trustees. Kabore is the multicultural and multilingual coordinator for the South Portland School Department while Donaldson is senior vice president and commercial banking team lead with Bangor Savings Bank.

Achievements

PC Construction in Portland said it was named “Southeast Contractor of the Year” by ENR Southeast, a trade publication in the engineering and construction industry.

The U.S. Small Business Administration announced that Shellfish Solutions d/b/a Blue Trace in Castine was a winner in the AgTech and Food Security division of its inaugural America’s Seed Fund Startup Expo 2022.

Maine International Trade Center in Portland named Puritan Medical Products as its “Innovator of the Year” for the Guilford company’s COVID-19 pandemic response efforts, with the company producing and distributing hundreds of millions of testing swabs for people in need.

Brann & Isaacson, a law firm in Lewiston, announced that eight of its lawyers were named to the “2022 New England Super Lawyers” list and four were named “Rising Stars.”

The Portland Water District announced that Barber Foods, Concord Coachlines, Cozy Harbor Seafood, ecomaine Waste-to-Energy, D.L. Geary Brewing, Kimberly Clark Larsen-Chapman Landfill, Maine College of Art and Design, Northern Light Mercy Hospital, Maine Medical Center and NRC all achieved full compliance with its industrial discharge permits for the 2021-22 Industrial Pretreatment year which ended on April 30.

David Kerr, a dentist in Portland, was added to the Maine Dental Association Honor Wall.

Denis Bergeron, utility analyst and coordinator of regional market programs at the Maine Public Utilities Commission, was awarded the “Lifetime Achievement Award” at the New England Conference of Public Utilities Commissioners. Bergeron has worked in state government in leadership positions for 35 years.

Allen Insurance and Financial in Camden said that Deb McDonald, a member of its business insurance team, earned the designation of Certified Insurance Counselor.

The Maine Hospital Association selected Nirav Shah, director of the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention, as its “MHA Caregiver of the Year” award winner.

Preti Flaherty, a law firm in Portland, announced that six of the firm’s practices and 13 of its Maine-based attorneys were ranked among the top three tiers in the 2022 Chambers USA Guide.

The Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce selected Bombshell Salon in Presque Isle as its “May Customer Service Award” winner.

Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington announced that it was awarded a three-year term of accreditation in magnetic resonance imaging after a review by the American College of Radiology. In addition, Taylor Harris, a speech-language pathologist, earned three certifications: one as a modified barium swallow impairment profile clinician, another as a certified dementia practitioner and as a Speak Out! clinician through the Parkinson’s Voice Project.

Norway Savings Bank said it earned the “2022 Best Place for Working Parents” designation. Additionally, the bank announced Brian Bernier, vice president and investment officer for Norway Savings Asset Management Group, earned the Certified Financial Planner certification from the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards.

Charlie Berg, videographer at MaineHealth in Portland, won a “Regional Emmy Award” for a video entitled “Inside View of Maine Medical Center ICU Nurses Caring for Unvaccinated COVID-19 Patients” that was viewed on YouTube page and other hospital social media channels.

Original Coconola by Grandy Organics in Hiram was named “Retail Best in Show” at the Maine Golden Fork Awards. Alder Smoked American Eel by American Unagi in Waldoboro won “Foodservice Best in Show” and Middle East Coast Labneh by Shovel and Spoon in Limington was “Best New Product.”
