New hires

Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor hired Theodore Curtis as a pediatric ophthalmologist.

Griffin & Jordan LLC, a law firm in Orono, hired Krysten Fabri to practice in all areas of real estate law and closings.

Sebago Technics, an employee-owned engineering consulting firm in South Portland, hired Mary Kozicki LaFontaine as director of employee development and engagement. Kozicki LaFontaine was previously regional director for Southern Career Centers for the Maine Department of Labor.

Sevee & Maher Engineers in Cumberland hired Huqiu Zhang as a senior chemist to broaden its range of product stewardship services for clients operating in the food, beverage and consumer products industries. Zhang has 25 years of industry experience, including work with large global corporations and product stewardship expertise that extends throughout the entire supply chain.

Maine Source Homes & Realty in Auburn hired Brian Gleason as a Realtor. Gleason was previously with Tim Dunham Realty in Topsham.

The Greater Portland Council of Governments hired Belinda Ray as director of strategic partnerships.

Promotions

The U.S. Small Business Administration promoted Diane Sturgeon to district director for the Maine District Office in Augusta. Sturgeon most recently served as deputy district director.

Rinck Advertising in Lewiston promoted Lisa Ardia to senior web marketing manager, Jessica Cote to senior digital media manager, Kelly Lunnie to art director, Jake MacGillivary to senior art director and creative services manager, Kristy Phinney to senior director of client strategy and Jarett Schadlich to senior web developer.

Camden National Bank promoted Barbara Raths to senior vice president, director of treasury management and government banking. Raths was previously senior vice president, senior treasury management sales advisor and international treasury specialist.

Appointments

The Maine Community College System in Augusta added Kossi Gamedah to its board of trustees. Gamedah, who was nominated by Gov. Janet Mills and confirmed by the Maine Senate, is senior vice president of retail operations for Goodwill Northern New England.

Good Shepherd Food Bank in Auburn added Andrea Sockabasin to its board of directors. Sockabasin currently leads the Division of Nutrition and Physical Activity for Wabanaki Public Health and Wellness, managing nutrition education, obesity prevention, and food sovereignty and security issues.

The Maine Insurance Agents Association in Hallowell elected Jeff Shaw as chairman of its board. Shaw is president of Clark Insurance in Portland.

United Way of Kennebec Valley in Augusta named Andrew Silsby as its campaign chair. Silsby, who will lead the organization’s 2021 fundraising efforts, is president and CEO of Kennebec Savings Bank.

Achievements

The Maine Tourism Association in Hallowell said it will posthumously induct Chris Fogg into its Hall of Fame. Fogg, who passed away unexpectedly in September, served as the CEO of the association for five years.

Melina Giakoumis, Caitlin Littlefield and Christina Murphy were selected as “2021 Second Century Stewardship Fellowship” award winners to conduct research in Acadia National Park as part of an initiative of the National Park Service, Schoodic Institute at Acadia National Park and the National Park Foundation. Giakoumis is a doctoral candidate at City University of New York, Littlefield is a research assistant professor in the Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources at the University of Vermont and Murphy is assistant unit leader of the USGS Maine Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit at the University of Maine.

Maine Historical Society in Portland recognized the L.L.Bean family with its “2021 Maine History Maker Award.” The annual award recognizes a Maine individual or family who has made significant contributions to the community and reflects traditions of innovation and leadership that have defined Maine throughout its history.

RE/MAX Shoreline in Portland announced that Mary Levanti-Cuellar, Mary McAleney, Ash Oberholtzer and Carolyn Willard were all presented with the “Executive Club Award” for their 2020 performance.

Geiger, a promotion products distributor in Lewiston, said it joined the United Nations Global Compact and was awarded a gold medal from EcoVadis during a recent sustainability assessment, placing the company in the top 5% of all companies assessed.

RE/MAX Shoreline in Portland said it was included in the “2021 RIS Media Top 1000 Power Brokers” ranking of U.S. real estate brokerages based on its 2020 performance.

Eastern Maine Community College in Bangor announced that its Medical Assisting Program was ranked as the No. 1 program of its kind in Maine by FindMedicalAssistingPrograms.org. The ranking compared accredited programs in each state based on metrics like overall cost, student to faculty ratio, retention rate and the services offered by the institution.

Angela Fileccia, director of Healthy Life Resources, a service of Northern Light Acadia Hospital in Bangor, was awarded the “Outstanding Alumni of the Year Award” by the University of Maine School of Social Work to recognize both accomplishments and leadership in the field of social work.

The Fiddlehead Center for the Arts in Scarborough received the most votes for designing a working chandelier made from single-use plastic bottles, foam, bottle caps, felt and other materials to win ecomaine’s Upcycle Challenge.

ORPC Inc., a developer of clean, renewable power systems that harness free-flowing rivers and tidal currents based in Portland, was selected by the Maine International Trade Center in Portland as “Innovator of the Year.”

The Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce presented an “Outstanding Customer Award” to Theriault Equipment in Presque Isle.

The Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit watchdog group that monitors the quality of U.S. health care, awarded nine of the 16 hospitals it evaluated in the state with an “A” ranking, resulting in Maine being listed No. 3 in the U.S. for the highest percentage of facilities receiving the top grade. The “A” list includes: Cary Medical Center, Caribou; Central Maine Medical Center, Lewiston; Franklin Memorial Hospital, Farmington; Maine Medical Center, Portland; Mid Coast Hospital, Brunswick; Northern Light A.R. Gould Hospital, Presque Isle; Northern Light Inland Hospital, Waterville; Pen Bay Medical Center, Rockport; and Southern Maine Healthcare, Biddeford. The “B” recipients were: Northern Light Mercy Hospital, Portland; St. Joseph Hospital, Bangor; St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, Lewiston; and York Hospital, York. Grades of “C” went to: MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta; Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center, Bangor; and Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital, Ellsworth.

Hight Ford, an automobile dealership in Skowhegan, said it received the “Ford Motor Company President’s Award” and the “One Ford Elite Award for 2020” from the Ford Motor Co.

Patrick Chamberlin, a member of the business insurance team at Allen Insurance and Financial in Camden, earned the designation of Certified Insurance Counselor.

Bangor Savings Bank announced that it received the highest ranking in customer satisfaction in the New England region for the J.D. Power 2021 U.S Retail Banking Satisfaction Study. It’s the fourth consecutive year the bank was rated best in the region in the study.
