Northern Maine mill expansion complete

Nashville-based Louisiana-Pacific Corporation has completed a $140 million expansion project at its New Limerick lumber mill, which has added 40 jobs and a new product line.

LP officials on Tuesday celebrated the grand opening of the new facility, which will produce laminated strand lumber, or LSL, an engineering wood product used in residential construction that is considered more environmentally friendly than traditional lumber, according to a press release from LP. LP broke ground on the expansion in the fall of 2006, and shipped its first order of LSL last week. The mill is LP's first LSL manufacturing facility, and one of only a few in North America, the release says.

The mill now has 158 employees.
