Kelp, a new boutique gift shop that offers everything from fun cards to home decor and clothing, has opened its doors in Old Orchard Beach.
The boutique, at 37 Old Orchard St., is owned and operated by the owners of Cafe 64, a coffee shop offering pastries, breakfast, lunch, acai bowls and coffee. The two retail spaces are connected, allowing customers to wander between the two.
Samantha and Levi Rush, along with Gabe Kidd, owners of Cafe 64 and Kelp, told Mainebiz that when the lease for the space next door became available, they were excited to expand and get creative by opening a boutique.
"We are very lucky to have a wonderful community of friends and customers in Old Orchard Beach and were excited to open a year-round boutique for not only tourists, but locals as well," said Samantha Rush.
Expanding into the new space called for cleaning, painting, and building displays. The trio curated each display based on color to create a unique shopping experience for everyone.
"Besides cleaning and painting, we got really lucky in that the space had a beautiful wood paneling throughout the entire building. I would describe Kelp as a coastal boutique offering a variety of high-quality clothes, home goods and gifts," Samantha Rush added.
The owners hope to offer art workshops over the winter. An online store is expected to open soon.
Kelp is open Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Friday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
