Portland jetport has record year in 07

Passenger traffic at the Portland International Jetport increased 17% from 2006 to 2007, the highest rate among New England airports, according to the Associated Press.

Jeff Monroe, Portland's transportation director, said the jetport saw its passenger numbers increase to 1.65 million last year because AirTran and JetBlue launched service at the airport in 2006 and 2007, respectively, the AP reported. The low-cost carriers are driving down prices at the airport, making it more competitive with airports in Boston and Manchester, N.H.

Other New England airports didn't fare as well. Passenger counts rose between 0.1% and 5.6% at airports in Boston, Manchester, Bangor, Burlington, Vt., and Bradley, Conn., according to the AP.
