Pulp+Wire, a branding and marketing agency in Portland, moved to a new office space to support flexibility for in-office and  hybrid work.

Pulp+Wire moved from its 4,800-square-foot street-level location on 2 Milk St. to a 3,000-square-foot studio space on the fourth floor of 120 Exchange St.

Taja Dockendorf, the founder and chief creative director, said the move, about a third of a mile away, comes as the agency grows its national footprint and remote workforce after more than 15 years at the Milk Street spot.

The search took over three years and nearly led to the purchase of a funeral home and a historic building in Portland.

“We toured spaces with Taja for years — historic buildings, off-market properties and even some unconventional options,” said Cameron Foster, a broker at the Boulos Co. “Ultimately, 120 Exchange checked every box: right location, right size and full of potential for a unique Pulp+Wire renovation.”

The design includes private offices opening into a central collaborative area, with plenty of natural light and views of Portland’s Old Port and harbor, according to a news release. The idea is to support in-office and hybrid team members, in addition to full-team gatherings, creative sessions and client meetings.

The “feel” is intended to be more like a high-end apartment than a traditional office. The interior design was led by Liz Kirby of Surf Road Interior Design in Cape Elizabeth.

“Our decision to leave a larger footprint wasn’t about scaling down — it was about scaling smart,” said Dockendorf. “After nearly 25 years in business and three years of looking for the ‘right fit,’ this new space represents who we are now: agile, collaborative and creative.”

The firm's clients include Manchester, N.H.-based MegaFood, RIND snacks headquartered in New York, N.Y., Bob’s Red Mill in Oregon and SunButter in Fargo, N.D.
