Rockland's Home Kitchen expanding with eateries

A Rockland couple is looking at expanding their popular Home Kitchen brand with three new eateries following the success of their Home Kitchen Café location that opened in 2009.

James Hatch and Susan Schiro will be opening a bakery, a sandwich and burrito shop, and an ice cream parlor at the former location of the Brown Bag restaurant and bakery, which closed late last year.

According to The Bangor Daily News, Hatch said that prior to Brown Bag’s closing, the couple planned to open their new eateries behind the Home Kitchen Café location. But the quick turnaround possible in opening up in the former Brown Bag location and competition scooping-up the prime Rockland Main Street site made the move to the former home of Brown Bag ideal.

“We didn’t want someone else coming in and competing. So we tied up the spot,” Hatch told the BDN.

The newest additions to the Home Kitchen brand are likely to open in April and will supply both the Home Kitchen Café and retail locations.
