Saint Joseph's College of Maine has appointed seven individuals to its board of trustees, adding leadership expertise from business, education, health care and nonprofit fields.
Bernice Bradin joins the board after an extensive career in finance and higher education administration. She retired as vice president and CFO of Lesley University in 2019. Bradin has served as an interim chief business officer at Saint Joseph's College and is a trustee of the Tilton School. She has also held roles in venture capital and private equity. She earned her MBA from Harvard Business School and holds an undergraduate degree from Cornell University.
Mark Duval is a local entrepreneur who has focused on the automotive and commercial real estate industries. He owned and operated Duval’s Service Center in South Portland for more than 35 years. While operating the service center, he grew a commercial real estate portfolio that is primarily focused on industrial assets. The South Portland native has served in various leadership roles with the Portland Water District, Southern Maine Community College and the Maine Irish Heritage Center. He is an alumnus of Saint Joseph’s College, earning his bachelor's degree in business administration.
Margaret Hourigan is a former chair of the department of nursing at Saint Joseph’s College. During her 15 years at the college, including department chair, she shaped the nursing program. Hourigan now teaches part-time at Purdue University Global's registered nurse to bachelor of science in nursing program.
She serves on the Northern Light Healthcare Foundation’s governance committee and has held leadership roles with the Maine State Board of Nursing and other professional organizations. She received her degrees from the University of New Hampshire, the University of Southern Maine and Columbia University.
Alan Lapoint, with over 30 years of experience in manufacturing leadership, heads Strainrite Cos., which produces liquid filtration and separation equipment. His leadership extends to several nonprofit boards, including that of the National Association of Manufacturers.
Sally White, a principal and owner of SAW Consulting Services, provides strategic guidance to colleges, universities and nonprofits. She previously served as senior vice president and leader of the higher education practice at McAllister & Quinn. She has also held senior leadership positions at the College of Notre Dame, Lehigh University and Towson University. White earned a bachelor's degree in European history at the University of Greenwich-London, a master's degree at the University of Texas and a doctorate in social psychology at the University of New Mexico.
Dan Marques is a digital transformation leader with experience in eCommerce, AI and digital strategy. He is the chief digital officer at HeyDude, a Crocs, Inc. brand. Marques received his bachelor's degree in entrepreneurship from Babson College.
Nate Martell brings legal and risk management expertise to the board from his role at Machias Savings Bank. At the bank, he oversees the bank’s legal matters and risk management functions. Martell is also active on the boards of other community organizations, including Down East Community Hospital. He received his bachelor's degree in environmental science from Saint Joseph’s College.
Founded in 1912 by the Sisters of Mercy, Saint Joseph's College of Maine is the state's only Catholic liberal arts college. Located on the shores of Sebago Lake in Standish, the 474-acre campus offers 46 undergraduate programs and has approximately 800 on-campus students.
Saint Joseph's was ranked No. 16 among Maine's largest colleges and universities in the 2024 Mainebiz Book of Lists, based on full-time undergraduate enrollment in fall 2023.
