Sappi makes cuts in Skowhegan

Sappi Fine Paper North America last week laid off an undisclosed number of salaried employees at its Somerset Mill in Skowhegan.

The company announced on March 2 that it would close a mill in Michigan and eliminate another 70 salaried jobs across the company. A company spokesperson told the Central Maine Morning Sentinel that the Skowhegan mill is one of the "sites affected," but declined to give a specific number of affected employees.

The Skowhegan mill employs roughly 900 people.
