SCORE Maine ranks 2nd nationally for client engagement

SCORE Maine, a resource partner of the U.S. Small Business Administration, said it provided business mentoring to more than 4,300 entrepreneurs and small business owners across the state in 2021.

The group delivered 108 webinars to more than 2,300 virtual attendees. The economic impact and support helped start 224 new businesses and create 1,297 non-owner new jobs.

In 2020, the group provided 184 online workshops and 4,243 client sessions.

Each year, the organization, with the support of the SCORE Foundation and PricewaterhouseCoopers, conducts research to measure SCORE’s engagement and economic impact on the U.S. economy.

Results from the 2021 study show SCORE’s client satisfaction remained high for the thirteenth year in a row. All 3 SCORE Maine Chapters, northern, central, and southern, ranked in the Top 25 chapters nationally, garnering SCORE Maine the second-best state in the nation for client engagement.

“Business owners continued to reach out to SCORE for help navigating the economic challenges of the pandemic. SCORE mentors helped business owners regain clarity and focus on key issues like funding, employee retention, and business transitions,” said SCORE Maine District Director Steve Veazey.

Among other initiatives, SCORE Maine partnered with the city of Portland Office of Economic Opportunity to create an immigrant workshop pilot program. It also recruited a diverse base of volunteers to strengthen its inclusive service environment.

Business owners who receive more than three hours of mentoring report higher revenues and increased growth.

SCORE is the largest active mentoring organization in Maine. Over 19,000 hours were donated by more than 130 volunteers.

“The return on investment for SCORE service is unparalleled,” Veazey said.

For every $1 the federal government appropriated to SCORE nationally, clients return $61.45 to the federal treasury in tax revenues, the organization said.
