SNAP wins $11M Army contract

A Down East company started in part by the Passamaquoddy Tribe has won an $11 million contract from the U.S. Army for flame-resistant combat uniforms.

Princeton-based Source for Native American Products LLC won the contract for the procurement of 58,263 uniforms, according to a press release from U.S. Sen. Susan Collins. SNAP was created in 2003 in partnership with the Passamaquoddy Tribe and J&P Apparel, and is the contracting and wholesale arm for Creative Apparel Associates, which makes military and commercial specialty clothing. According to Creative Apparel's website, it employs approximately 300 people in five facilities in Belmont, Harmony, Dover-Foxcroft, Fort Kent and Princeton.

The work is expected to be completed by April 2011.
