Snowe wants to lower fuel tax

United States Senator Olympia Snowe has introduced a bill to lower the federal diesel tax to help lobstermen, truckers and small companies stay in business.

The Diesel Tax Parity Act will decrease the tax from 24.3 cents a gallon to 18.3 cents, according to a press release from Snowe's office. Diesel fuel is about 70% pricier this time than last year, averaging $4.34 a gallon in Maine and $4.20 nationwide, according to AAA.
