Stantec closes Woodlot deal

International consulting firm Stantec today finalized its acquisition of Woodlot Alternatives, an environmental consulting firm in Topsham.

Mainebiz first reported in early July that Woodlot, which employs roughly 65 people at its Topsham headquarters, would be acquired by Edmonton, Alberta-based Stantec, which currently employs 6,500 at over 100 locations in North America and the Caribbean. Woodlot's focus is in the wind and natural gas energy sectors, and the company has completed studies and impact assessments at over 60 proposed wind farm sites across the United States.

Woodlot is Stantec's third acquisition in the state in the past two years, and the company recently announced plans to acquire Neill and Gunter, a consulting engineering firm with approximately 130 employees in Scarborough. Allison Smith, a Stantec spokeswoman, told Mainebiz Stantec expects to consolidate its Maine operations in one Portland office, which will include 240 employees, once the transactions are complete.
