State OKs 15 companies for PTZ program

Fifteen Maine companies that could collectively create nearly 250 new jobs have been certified as Pine Tree Zone businesses, the Department of Economic and Community Development said this week.

In the midcoast and Down East region, businesses receiving tax breaks under the PTZ program include Atlantic Salmon of Maine, Lee S. Wilbur & Co. and Atlantis Maritime. In southern Maine, recipients include Kittery Point Yacht Yard, Portland Shellfish Co. Inc., Eastman Industries, Fiber Materials Inc. and David Saunders Inc.

In the Lewiston-Auburn area, the newly certified businesses are Innovex Technologies, Downeast Networks Inc., Formed Fiber Technologies, Maine Oxy and FIS Capital Markets. Lohmann Animal Health International in Winslow and Ntension Corp. in Hermon also were certified under the program.

The PTZ program provides tax incentives to Maine-based businesses in targeted industries, such as manufacturing, biotech and financial services provided they create new jobs with the savings. The state has certified more than 160 businesses since the program started in 2004.
