Sugarloaf plans $2.9M in offseason upgrades
Michigan-based Boyne Resorts plans to invest another $2.9 million at its Sugarloaf Ski Resort in Carrabassett Valley, adding 200 new low-energy snow guns and a 30-person outdoor hot tub.
The new snow guns will add to a $1 million investment in low-energy snow guns the company made in 2012. Sugarloaf General Manager John Diller said in a press release that those new guns allow snowmaking at 28 degrees, which he said can allow the mountain to open as early as the first weeks of November.
The latest investment also means expansion of some runs at the mountain and a $200,000 kitchen renovation for the ski area's 45 North restaurant.
Last year, Boyne Resorts made $4.3 million in upgrades at Sugarloaf. In April, it announced it would also invest $5.7 million in upgrades at its Sunday River ski resort in Newry, adding 200 new snowmaking machines and expanding the hotel restaurant.
