Sweetgrass Winery & Distillery,  a Union-based maker of wine and spirits from Maine-grown fruits and grains, is getting ready to open a tasting room and retail store in Kennebunk.

Kennebunk will be the third location for company, which offers tasting and tours at its winery, distillery, farm and creamery in Union, which will open for the season Wednesday. The company has a tasting room and shop in Portland at 324 Fore St.

The new tasting room and retail store, set to open May 22, is on the Maine Art Hill 4, 5 Chase Hill Road, in lower Kennebunk village.

"We see so many customers from southern Maine and New England who want a closer place to buy our wines and spirts," said Keith Bodine, who co-owns the business with Constance Bodine. "We've had the opportunity to visit Kennebunk many times during different events and always enjoyed the feel of the community."

Back River Gin has ingredients that include organic botanicals and Maine blueberries. It also makes a liqueur out of Maine rhubarb and elderberries, Rhubarb Smash, and a maple syrup-infused brandy, Maple Smash.
