A computer malfunction at TD Bank has left its customers wrestling with outdated balance information and problems paying bills.
The bank's computer system crashed twice on Monday and Tuesday after technicians spent the weekend trying to integrate TD Banknorth's system with that of New Jersey-based Commerce Bank, which TD Banknorth, headquartered in Portland, bought last year, the Portland Press Herald reported. The combined institution is now called TD Bank.
The glitch slowed online updates of deposits, and while transactions were still going through, online records didn't reflect all of them. As of Thursday night, the system was still lagging in posting updated information on accounts, the paper reported.
The bank said it couldn't determine how many of its 6.5 million customers were affected. It hopes to resolve the glitch today and said it will waive any related fees, service charges or interest.
