Time running out for businesses to switch to Maine Tax Portal

Maine business owners and tax professionals who file their state taxes online have less than three months to switch over to the new Maine Tax Portal.

The portal will replace Maine Revenue Services’ current online services on May 31, so the agency is urging eligible taxpayers to start using the new portal as soon as possible.

Maine Revenue Services, part of the Maine Department of Administrative and Financial Services, has opened the new portal to more than 140,000 business taxpayers for filing and payment of various business taxes.

The Maine Tax Portal will replace current online services including I-File, MEETRS, and E-Z Pay. After those systems are deactivated for most business taxes and programs on May 31, the new portal will become the sole online filing and payment option. Those who use I-FILE are strongly encouraged to print records from that system before the end of May.

“It’s very important that all taxpayers who can use the Maine Tax Portal create new usernames and passwords on the new online system as soon as possible, and before the older systems are deactivated,” said Kirsten Figueroa, commissioner of the Maine Department of Administrative and Financial Services. "Don’t wait until the last minute.”

The opening of the Maine Tax Portal for businesses is part of a multi-year rollout that will be complete by the end of 2024.

The Maine Tax Portal will be rolled out for all individual income tax filing, and 10 other tax programs this October.

A year later, in October 2024, the Maine Tax Portal will open to 20 additional tax types and programs. The complete rollout schedule is available here
