Upgrades planned at area airports

Two Bangor region airports will receive more than $2.67 million in federal grants to upgrade their facilities.

The Federal Aviation Administration through the U.S. Department of Transportation will provide $2,544,083 to Bangor International Airport to rehabilitate its cargo apron to restore the pavement's strength, according to U. S. Rep. Mike Michaud's office.

Also, Dewitt Field-Old Town Municipal Airport will receive $130,000 to purchase a loader for snow removal.

"These investments will create jobs and help these airports with needed upgrades," Michaud said in a release. "These are tough economic times and these grants supply much needed investment in our state's infrastructure at a time we can use it most."
