Wellness nonprofit goes statewide

A successful workplace wellness program in Bangor yesterday announced plans to expand statewide.

The Bangor Region Wellness Council, which since 2002 has helped member businesses implement initiatives to encourage employees to quit smoking, lose weight, and focus on diet and exercise, will change its name to the Wellness Council of Maine, according to the Bangor Daily News.

For membership dues ranging from $365 to $665 a year, the nonprofit helps businesses develop a wellness program and provides onsite consultations from "wellness coordinators," among other offerings. Some Bangor area businesses tell the paper their wellness programs have helped limit increases in health insurance premiums.
