West Paris wood chip mill plans restart

A wood chip plant in West Paris that supplies Rumford's NewPage paper mill is expected to restart later this month after a three-week shutdown.

The majority of Midwest Price Co.'s 42 employees are expected to return to work by mid-to-late May, according to the Sun Journal. All but six of the employees were laid off three weeks ago when the NewPage mill, which gets its wood chips from Midwest Price, announced it would be shutting down some of its operations. On Friday, Midwest Price called back 15 employees and planned to call the rest back later this month, the paper reported.

Midwest Price, in business since 2001, is the Rumford mill sole wood chip supplier, and also provides trucking services to sawmills and other wood chip facilities.
