The Maine marijuana industry has blossomed over the past few years, especially in Eliot, where a stretch of cannabusinesses has been dubbed the “Green Mile.” And the area is adding another recreational cannabis store.

OG Cannabis, with the slogan “The Way Leaf Should Be,” is an adult-use cannabis establishment that opens Wednesday at 18 American Way.

Will Dunphey and Steve Dunker told Mainebiz that they started OG Cannabis as Organic Goods Medical Dispensary, which opened in December 2020 as one of the first on the Green Mile.

“We were one of the first medical dispensaries on U.S. Route 236,” they said. “This allowed us to strategically set a standard for the caregiver model and carry that over to the adult-use market. It was a logical step that allowed us to offer this unique, unbiased approach to the adult-use market.

“We believe that the variety of businesses on the Green Mile will make it a must-visit for out-of-state vacationers and travelers to Maine. It’s a friendly competition with the other stores/companies in the area. We are all unique in our own ways.”

The mile is a cluster of retail and medical marijuana dispensaries, and also includes Cannabis Cured Recreational Weed Dispensary Eliot, East Coast Cannabis-Eliot and Sweet Dirt Medicinals Cannabis. The location is key; Eliot sits across the Piscataqua River from New Hampshire, where recreational-use marijuana is illegal. The Green Mile is a 10-minute drive from downtown Portsmouth, N.H.

OG Cannabis offers a curated list of vendors and premium products that meet all safety and testing requirements.

Dunphey and Dunker plan to offer guided tours of OG Cannabis, and said the store is a must-see.

“Because we are not integrated with cultivation, we have a significant advantage in not having to promote our products over our vendors,” said Dunphey and Dunker.

“We are a true retail store with a responsibility to our vendors and customers without a conflict of interest of pushing our own products first. Our goal is to remove the stigma for cannabis shoppers. We want the cannabis connoisseur, or the cannabis connoisseur's Mom or Dad, to have the same experience."

In addition to the grand opening, upcoming events at OG Cannabis include a ribbon-cutting ceremony with the York Chamber of Commerce, at noon on April 18, and a “Dabs and Donuts” party from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on April. 20.
