ZipLine Inc., a Portland-based provider of private-label debit card and mobile payment technology, said Monday it has acquired SmartClixx, a gift-card payment software developer with offices in Boca Raton, Fla.

Terms were not disclosed.

In a news release, ZipLine said the deal brings the company into the gift-card market, complementing ZipLine’s capabilities in consumer payments and loyalty rewards.

"We're excited to continue our path of rapid growth and expansion into new markets; acquiring SmartClixx and its experienced team is another step in that direction,” said ZipLine CEO Stephen Goodrich.

“Together, we will combine our unique platforms on behalf of merchant partners, including in new verticals, to deliver secure, enhanced, alternative payment and rewards solutions.”

Founded in 2001, SmartClixx has installed its customizable technology with retail clients including Lord & Taylor, Saks Fifth Avenue and Books-A-Million. SmartClixx processes more than a $1 billion of stored-value card transactions annually through thousands of locations, according to the release.

ZipLine's clients include retailers such as Circle K, Speedway, Cumberland Farms, Irving, Giant Eagle and Big Y.

In addition to its headquarters at 72 Commercial St. in Portland, ZipLine has offices in Deerfield Beach, Fla. The company launched in 2004.
