18 health centers across Maine will get $13M in federal aid

As the recently approved CARES Act pumps emergency financing into businesses across Maine and the country, the legislation is also providing funds to help the state’s community health centers meet new demands.

A total of $12.9 million has been awarded to 18 centers for screening and testing services, medical supplies and additional telehealth capacity in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, U.S. Sens. Susan Collins, R-Maine, and Angus King, I-Maine, said in a news release Thursday.

The money is part of $1.3 billion allocated for community health centers by the CARES Act, which provides a total of over $2 trillion in emergency aid.

“Community health centers are essential to Maine’s rural health care system. During the COVID-19 pandemic, these medical providers are needed now more than ever,” Collins and King said in the release. “This important funding will assist health centers throughout Maine as they continue to care for COVID-19 patients in their communities.”
