$20M to fund 30 transportation projects

Thirty transportation projects in southern Maine are receiving a total of $20.2 million over the next five years from the Portland Area Comprehensive Transportation System.

The projects winning the highest amount of funding are an intersection construction at Dunstan Corner in Scarborough, which netted $3 million; reconstruction of Cummings Road in South Portland, which won $1.5 million; and intersection work at Cumberland Mills Triangle in Westbrook, which won $1.45 million, according to a press release from PACTS. The projects stretch from Biddeford to Freeport and also include sidewalk construction, paving, improvements to public transportation infrastructure, and bike and pedestrian trails in Portland. Municipalities that apply for PACTS funding, which comes from state and federal sources, must provide a 25% match with some exceptions.

The awards are the result of two years of analysis by officials from the 15 PACTS communities and seven public transportation systems in the greater Portland region, according to the press release.
