A Downeast B&B’s new owners are young and new to Maine

Maine’s struggles to attract young residents were helped by a couple taking over the Black Duck Inn, the Ellsworth American reported.

Rae Ptashinsky and Bill Mathewson, recently engaged, plan to operate the Corea inn year-round and open gallery space and a summer camp onsite. The Black Duck Inn, which had been owned by Barry Canner and Bob Travers, had been on the market for a decade, the American reported.

Mathewson, a native of Norfolk, Va., had visited the area since childhood. The pair moved from Mississippi, where Ptashinsky taught school through the Teach for America program.

They originally discovered the inn after booking a romantic getaway there.
