The popular Higgins Beach Market at 82 Spurwink Rd. in Scarborough has been razed and replaced with a market that now offers an expanded kitchen, broadened menu and front porch.
Big Tree Hospitality, which owns several restaurants in Portland, operates the market. Company communications director Amy Caramante told Mainebiz that the replaced market will be no larger than the previous store but will be bringing pizza back to the menu, and will be also be offering breakfast and lunch options.
There is no interior seating and just one picnic table outdoors. Caramante said the food items are intended to be "grab and go" as was the case with the old market.
The store had a soft opening recently, is now open five days a week (closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays) and will expand to seven days a week starting June 16.
The market was rebuilt by Scarborough-based Eider Investment and the property is owned by Chris Owens.
Big Tree Hospitality also operates Falmouth’s Town Landing Market, the South Freeport Village Market, three restaurants in Portland including Eventide Oyster Co., Hugo’s and the Honey Paw, and Eventide Fenway in Boston.
