Ryan Pelletier will leave his post as Aroostook County administrator to serve as city administrator in Saco following a unanimous vote earlier this week.
He will succeed John Bohenko, who resigned in August to prioritize his health.
Emily Cole-Prescott, Saco's deputy city administrator of community development, will continue serving as interim city administrator until Pelletier’s contract starts on Jan. 5, 2026.
Pelletier was selected following a competitive recruitment process that involved a pool of more than 70 applicants. He will serve a three-year contract with an annual salary of $185,000.
“The last two years have brought forward movement in many key areas with positive changes,” said Saco Mayor Jodi MacPhail. “I look forward to building on that success with our new city administrator, who brings a solid background in economic development and both county and municipal management that will position us for the future.”
In Maine's northernmost county since 1998, Pelletier has held various local government leadership roles, including a combined 16 years as town manager in Wallagrass, St. Agatha and Madawaska.
Pelletier also spent five years as director of economic development and workforce development at the Northern Maine Development Commission and is a past president of the Maine Municipal Association.
“I am deeply humbled and honored by the mayor and City Council’s decision to appoint me as the next city administrator for the city of Saco,” Pelletier said. “I am anxious to join the team to continue the great work already underway and to explore opportunities for Saco to continue to grow and be responsive to the needs of the people of Saco.”
