Aroostook County housing is topic of upcoming summit

Aroostook Partnership in Presque Isle, in collaboration with MaineHousing and the Genesis Community Loan Fund, will host the 2025 Aroostook County Housing Summit on Oct. 30 at the Edmunds Conference Center at Northern Maine Community College in Presque Isle.

Building on the 2024 summit, this year's event will bring together community members, municipal leaders, investors, developers and other stakeholders to explore ways to spur housing development across all income levels throughout Aroostook County.

"This summit provides a valuable opportunity for collaboration and learning among those working to address our region's housing challenges,” said Kiersten Purington, president and CEO Aroostook Partnership.

The full-day summit will feature presentations on housing development and financing.

A historic rehabilitation tax credit workshop will be offered on Oct. 29 at Northern Maine Community College from 2 to 5 p.m. Led by John Egan and Robyn Wardell from the Genesis Community Loan Fund, the workshop will use case studies on securing historic preservation tax credits for development projects.

Lack of affordable housing across all income levels in the county remains a key issue.

The partnership seeks to support initiatives that facilitate housing development and serves as a convener by bringing together stakeholders and collaborators. The 2024 housing summit in Presque Isle convened over 100 people with representation from developers, tradespeople, area businesses, financial institutions and municipalities with the goal of connecting local and regional businesses who are working to address the housing shortage.
