Airports across Maine have received a total of $1,913,006 through the recent round of funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Fiscal Year 2022 Airport Improvement Program.

The funding will be allocated as follows, according to a news release Monday.

  • Augusta State Airport will receive $900,000 to reconstruct its apron.
  • Central Maine Airport of Norridgewock will receive $180,000 to seal its runway, taxiway and apron surface pavement joints.
  • Dexter Regional Airport will receive $113,000 to seal its runway, taxiway and apron surface pavement joints.

  • Machias Valley Airport will receive $150,000 to update its airport master plan or study.
  • Waterville Robert Lafleur Airport will receive $300,000 to update its airport master plan or study.

The AIP funds also include a total of $180,000 awarded to nine Maine airports for feasibility studies on installing automated weather observing systems. The systems would enhance the safety and efficiency of aircraft operations at the airports by providing accurate, current, and site-specific weather information.

Receiving those funds are:

  • Belfast Municipal Airport
  • Bethel Regional Airport
  • Sugarloaf Regional Airport, in Carrabassett Valley
  • Central Maine Airport, of Norridgewock
  • Eastport Municipal Airport
  • Greenville Municipal Airport
  • Machias Valley Airport
  • Newton Field Airport, in Jackman
  • Princeton Municipal Airport.

“Airports promote job creation and economic development, expand access to health care in rural regions, and provide an essential transportation option in large states like Maine,” U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, said in the news release.
