Bank’s future in Kennebunk hinges on ballot

Kennebunk Savings’ future in Kennebunk is reportedly hinging on a referendum question on the town’s local ballot that would allow the bank to expand operations there.

The York County Coast Star reported that voters will decide if they want to rezone an industrial area and allow commercial activity — a move what would enable Kennebunk Savings to consolidate its four administrative offices into a building there.

Bank official and economic development officials said they’re concerned many voters don’t understand the referendum and what’s at stake. Kennebunk Savings won’t be able to move into the industrial zone unless the referendum is approved.
