Lajoie Bros. Construction is building a 38,000-square-foot addition for Goodwin Chevrolet Mazda at 195 Pleasant Ave./ U.S. Route 1 in Brunswick.
“The renovation is designed to modernize and expand both showroom and service space, enhance operational flow and elevate the overall dealership environment for customers and employees,” according to Goodwin Motor Group’s Julie Labbay.
“There are two distinct showrooms but they're attached, and the Mazda one is an addition to the existing structure," she added.
The project broke ground in July and is targeted for completion in May 2026.
The Goodwin family opened the Brunswick dealership in 1975, but has been in the auto business since 1932. As early as 1925, Joseph "Tiger" Goodwin opened a warming garage for cars during cold Maine winters in a spot which is now home to Brunswick's Tontine Mall.
The Goodwin Motor Group is still family owned and operates a total of five dealerships in Maine and N.H. In Topsham the family runs a Volvo dealership. The Oxford location sells Chevrolets and the Scarborough and Bedford, N.H., dealerships sell Land Rovers.
Today, the company owners are Chris Goodwin and Rob Goodwin.
Apart from Lajoie Bros., which has offices in Augusta and Brunswick, the dealership build includes teams from Sebago Technics, of South Portland; Trillium Engineering Group, of Yarmouth; and CWS Architecture + Interior Design, of Scarborough.
Joe Lajoie told Mainebiz that while his company builds across all industries, auto dealerships have become a bit of a specialty. Prior to the Brunswick project, Lajoie built four Ford dealerships in Maine and is currently working on a project for Tucker Chevrolet on U.S. Route 1 in Wiscasset.
