CWS Architecture + Interior Design in Scarborough said its longtime president, Benedict Walter, will step down in March 2026 after 34 years with the firm and 40 years in the architecture industry.

Since founding CWS in 1992, Walter has played a pivotal role in shaping the firm’s growth, strengthening client relationships and leading projects in Greater Portland.

"The success of CWS has always been about the strength of our team, our relationships and our shared commitment to designing with purpose,” he said.

Projects underway this year include a redesign and update to Bangor City Hall and an extensive upgrade of the 50-year-old Harbor Terrace on Danforth Street in Portland.

The firm will continue to operate under four principals: co-presidents George Lavigne and Lynn Pepin and vice presidents Guy Labrecque and Rebecca Bagley.

Lavigne has been with the firm since 1996 and was named principal in 2013. Pepin has been with the firm since 2015 and was named principal in 2019.

“Ben’s commitment to collaboration and to building meaningful relationships has shaped not only the firm but also each of us as professionals,” said Pepin. “As we look to the future, we are excited to carry forward his vision while continuing to nurture the partnerships and values that define who we are."
