Building supply co. expands in MA

The parent company of two Maine building supply companies is expanding into Massachusetts with an acquisition.

United Ventures LLC, which operates Lavalley Lumber in Sanford and Poole Brothers in midcoast Maine, acquired three Massachusetts locations from Stock Building Supply, a North Carolina company that operates throughout the country, according to a press release. Stock emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy in July and said at the time it would shed locations to focus on its core markets in other parts of the country.

United Ventures, an Albany, N.Y.-based private holding company with an office in Portland, was founded by former executives of Key Bank, including Richard Thompson, former CFO of KeyBank of Maine, in 1999 and acquired Lavalley Lumber and Poole Brothers soon afterwards.
