Coastal Commons Business Park, under construction on the corner of Route 1 and Laudholm Road in Wells, has had passersby scratching their heads, wondering what type of project was underway.
The 8,000-square foot building is divided into eight units, each with an expansive overhead door and 16-foot-high ceilings. Is it a self-storage facility? A car wash?
None of the above, according to builder Robin Muir of Kennebunk-based Ram Built Inc. The units are designed to suit light industrial firms such as contractors and landscapers, who need work space along with a garage for large vehicles and equipment.
Muir told Mainebiz that developers Bob and Shelley Lachance, who had operated a landscaping business themselves, will most likely market the units as condos or as lease-to-buy units.
With 16-foot-high ceilings, Muir said buyers could potentially add a second floor or mezzanine to the units.
Also on the property, Muir is building an 1,800-square-foot office building with two residential condos on the second-floor.
Total cost of the project will come in around $1.4 million, and it is expected to be completed by the end of November.
