Developer proposes land-for-building swap

The Boulos Company wants to build an office building on a county lot in downtown Portland that would be the second tallest office building on the peninsula.

The proposed office tower would be on a half-acre lot and be 12 stories tall, have 105,000 sq. ft. of space and include a 269-space parking garage, according to the Portland Press Herald. In return for the $1.2 million lot, which is adjacent to the county courthouse, Boulos has promised to build Cumberland County a separate 12,000-square-foot office building worth more than $2 million, the paper reported.

The City Council would need to approve a zoning change to allow for the construction of the tower, which at 150 feet to 170 feet, would exceed the 65-foot limit for the area.
