Group protests Poland Spring plans

A small group gathered this weekend in Fryeburg to protest Poland Spring's plans to build a bottling plant in town.

About 50 people poured Poland Spring bottled water back into a local aquifer as a symbolic protest of the company's plan to build a plant and truck-loading facility in town, the Associated Press reported.

Organizer Howard Dearborn, 89, offered $10 to the first 50 people to pour the water into Lovewell Pond, which supplies water for Poland Spring. By removing water from the pond, Dearborn says, Poland Spring is harming the ecology of the pond, the AP reported. Poland Spring disputes the claim.
