Downtown Gardiner shops rent-free through holidays

To fill empty storefronts, the town of Gardiner is offering space rent-free for November and December.

NECN reported that Gardiner's top economic development official worked out the deal with four local landlords in hopes of revitalizing the downtown through the holiday season.

Gardiner officials told the news service they hope the businesses will stick around on the downtown's Water Street and pay rent in 2013.
