Fairchild lays off 62 people in 2013

Fairchild Semiconductor has laid off 62 employees in Portland and South Portland this year.

The Portland Press Herald reported that the company cut 25 jobs at its manufacturing facility in Portland and 37 jobs from its South Portland business office.

Dianna Fletcher, a spokeswoman for the company, told the paper the layoffs this year were due to “cyclical market demands of the industry.”

The latest layoffs reflect a steady decline since 2010 of the company’s Maine-based workforce. The company now has 342 workers in Portland and 271 in South Portland, down from roughly 500 and 300 in 2010.
