Feds set aside $2M for BNAS workers

The federal government is giving Maine $2 million to help workers affected by the Brunswick Naval Air Station closure, Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins said yesterday.

The state will use the National Emergency Grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to provide job training in the information technology industry for workers affected by the 2011 base closure. Working with the Technology Association of Maine, the state will offer scholarships and develop IT training programs for high school students.

The state is offering the programs to communities in Androscoggin, Cumberland, Lincoln, Sagadahoc and York counties, according to a press release.
