Former Maine Tourism Assoc. employee charged

A former finance and human resources manager at the Maine Tourism Association in Hallowell has been charged with embezzling more than $10,000 from the organization.

The Kennebec Journal reported 44-year-old Ronald Brann of West Gardiner faces charges of theft by unauthorized taking, a class B felony with a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison. In a letter to the association’s members last week, Executive Director Vaughn Stinson wrote that the embezzlement allegations stemmed from a forensic audit of the organization’s financials that were turned over to police. The organization recouped most of the money through insurance, Stinson wrote.

The paper reported Brann has been cooperative with police and, as a result, has not been arrested on the embezzlement charge.
