Four airports share $2.6M for improvements

The Federal Aviation Administration has awarded four grants totaling $2.6 million to four Maine airports. The funding will be used to develop and implement a regional comprehensive economic development strategy.

According to a press release from U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud, the strategies will improve infrastructure, help increase travel and create new economic opportunities in some rural parts of the state.

Recipients are:

  • Central Maine Airport of Norridgewock, $2,170,000 for runway rehabilitation;
  • Northern Aroostook Regional Airport, $285,000 for taxiway construction and runway rehabilitation
  • Bangor International Airport, $151,815 for environmental mitigation
  • Northern Maine Regional Airport of Presque Isle, $35,031 for snow removal equipment and runway rehabilitation
