Health co. brings 200 jobs to Belfast

A leading health care company said today it is buying the former MBNA complex in Belfast.

Athenahealth Inc., a provider of Internet business services for physicians based in Massachusetts, has signed an agreement to purchase for an undisclosed price the 130,000-square-foot facility from Bracebridge Corporate, a subsidiary of Bank of America, which acquired MBNA in early 2006. Athenahealth's new Maine Center will be its second operational service site, according to a press release. The new facility will create at least 200 jobs, according to a press release from Sen. Susan Collins.

The purchase is expected to be complete by Feb. 18. Athenahealth has preliminary approval to receive tax incentives under Maine's Pine Tree Development Zone program.
