Heating fuel prices continue to rise

Home heating fuel prices continue to rise as winter storms hamper deliveries and temperatures continue to dip to chilling lows around the state and region.

The Governor’s Energy Office reported the statewide average price for No. 2 heating oil has risen 4 cents from last week to $3.81 per gallon. That’s 20 cents higher than just over one month ago.

The state office found prices for other heating fuels are also on the rise as rail deliveries have been slower than usual. The Portland Press Herald reported that a regional shortfall of propane, which is driving prices up, may be alleviated by propane imports from overseas suppliers in the coming weeks.
