Allagash Brewing Co. will expand its footprint beyond its Portland base with a second tap room set to open at the Downs mixed-use development in Scarborough this July.
Allagash Scarborough will be located at 10 Market St., in a building that’s about 70% sold out, according to Ashley Risbara, marketing director for the Downs.
Other tenants include Ameriprise Financial, Spurling Fitness and the Maine Oral Surgery and Dental Implant Center, she told Mainebiz.
While Allagash had originally planned to build a new tasting room on land it purchased at the Downs in 2022 and open in 2024, changing circumstances prompted the company shift gears and rent space in the new construction at 10 Market St.
“Given the building costs and current market realities, using this already existing space at the Downs seems like a better way to move forward with our plans to expand to Scarborough in the immediate term,” said Allagash founder Rob Tod, a 2025 Mainebiz Business Leader of the Year in the sustainability category.
“While this new tasting room will be a pivot from our original plans at the Downs, we’re thrilled to be a part of the Scarborough community and invite people to come see what our new tasting space has to offer,” he added.
Allagash, headquartered at 50 Industrial Way in Portland, expects to add two year-round, full-time positions in Scarborough and multiple seasonal positions at the start, with hiring to take place in spring 2025.
“For 30 years, Portland has been and will always be our home, but we’re excited to reach even more of the Maine community in this new space, as well as folks visiting Maine, by bringing the Allagash experience to Scarborough,” Tod said.
The concept, interior and exterior design of the new space are being created by Mey & Co, the team behind Portland restaurants including Bar Futo, Mr. Tuna, Bread + Friends and Ramona’s.
The Downs, which broke ground in 2018, is home to more than 50 businesses as well as a mixed-use housing development and Maine's first newly built town center.
