The law firm Skelton Taintor & Abbott plans a move from its downtown Lewiston headquarters to new digs a stone’s throw away.

The firm’s limited liability company, 491 Lisbon Street Associates LLC, bought 491 Lisbon St. from Lisbon Street Leasing LLC for $1.1 million.

Josh Soley and Charlie Hippler of CORE, a commercial real estate firm in Portland, brokered the transaction.

Built in 2004, the building at 491 Lisbon St. encompasses 18,000 square feet of Class A office space on three stories and was vacant when it was sold. The property was marketed as being centrally located in Lewiston, with a first-floor entrance that includes a dedicated reception area and spacious floor plans with large privacy glass windows. There are 21 parking spaces.

The sale was several months in the making.

In 2024, CORE brokered the sale of 491 Lisbon St. to Lisbon Street Leasing LLC and then managed the lease listing.

Skelton Taintor & Abbott approached CORE with an interest in leasing the space. As conversations progressed, the law firm decided to buy the building and transform it into a state-of-the-art office space.

Skelton Taintor & Abbott ranks No. 15 among Maine's largest law firms, according to the 2025 Mainebiz Book of Lists. At the time the list was put together, the firm had 13 Maine attorneys and a total staff of 44 people.

Renovations

“This is a prime site and the perfect location for one of Lewiston’s most important law firms,” said Soley. “It offers Skelton Taintor & Abbott a chance to expand and further build on its storied, 172-year history in Lewiston.”

Founded in 1853, Skelton Taintor & Abbott currently rents space at 500 Canal St.

Lisbon Street parallels Canal Street. The two buildings front the respective streets and have their backs to each other, separated by an alley.

The law firm’s plan is to move its headquarters to 491 Lisbon St. after it completes extensive interior renovations, according to a news release.

The building will house both the law firm and Androscoggin Title Co., according to a separate release. The title company is also currently at 500 Canal St.

“This acquisition reflects our continued growth and long-term commitment to serving clients in Lewiston-Auburn and beyond,” Skelton Taintor & Abbott said. “Over the coming months, the building will undergo a full renovation to create a modern, collaborative workspace designed to support our attorneys, staff and clients for years to come.”

The firm said it expects to move in the late spring of 2026.
