LURC member bows out of wind farm debate

A commissioner on the Land Use Regulation Commission has recused himself from hearings, which began yesterday, on a proposed wind farm near Carrabassett Valley.

Stephen Wight, from Bethel, said he would remove himself from discussions of a proposed 18-turbine wind farm on Black Nubble mountain because of accusations, which Wight called "unsubstantiated," that Wight received a call from the project's supporters after LURC initially rejected the proposal in January and then acted inappropriately by calling other commissioners to discuss the vote and project.

The three-day hearing began yesterday in Carrabassett Valley.
